Song Lyrics

Bailey

Bailey don't have anyone to take her home
she's much to busy working at her job
she's activily commited to a better world
secretly, she'd rather be in love

CHORUS:
Bailey, you're not dealing with the hunger
That should not matter-often times it does
You deserve better than you're doing
I know-love will find
love will find-love will find-your door
How many people in this world
are just like you-sweet, solitary people
that would love to love you

Bailey don't need anyone to wreck her house
she'd just have to clean it up again
The status quo walks the wire in silence
if you can't a love-take a friend
repeat Chorus

Don't Put Me Down

I was a challenge
You had to take
it ain't like you had a
heart I could break
If I was like those other guys
that wrecked your heart and ran
then, I could understand

CHORUS:
Don't put me down darling
Don't put me down dear

If time lends perspective
then, the Sun is next door
and, Alpha Centuri
is right down the road
The point that I am trying to make
it's just too big to grasp
and, my mind wants to explode
CHORUS

Bridge:
Well, it ain't like I ain't been around
once, I drove a car to town
parked that car, and I watched the lights
but, I ain't never seen nothing
half as bright

Isn't it funny?
A creepy guy like me
with a cool girl like you
I'm crushed by your silence
and, I can never be free
you can go-back to your friends
and, pretend you don't know me
but, that isn't how it was
CHORUS and BRIDGE

Get Everybody Rocking

It's the same old story
the same old line
everything's great
eveything's fine
Job doing good?
The kids o.k.?
The same old crap,
we've got nothing to say.

Chorus:
Tonight we're breaking out
Tonight we're breaking out
Tonight we're breaking out
of the house
get everybody rocking.

Times I like candy
times I like wine
eat myself sick
drink myself blind
do anything to leave
the grind behind
make a fool of myself
I don't mind
Chorus

Someday soon
I'm going to work it all out
and, when I do
I'll give you a shout
come on now, baby
come along with me
put your troubles down
set your mind free
Chorus

Moped Head

I'm a silly hillbilly with a city boy toy
I play too loud but, I like the noise
I'm Ernest Tubb, bub, with a be-bop doo
a swivel hip trip with an attitude

Chorus:
I got a moped head with a cadillac heart
ain't too slick, but, I'm kind of smart
want to take it real slow-I can do my part
I got a moped head-with a cadillac heart

Made a love shack, baby-in the back of my car
got some lighting bugs in an ol' fruit jar
let the bugs go while we're making love
we're floating along with the stars above
Chorus

Made a buttercup crown for you that day,
we kept it 'til it fell away
sipped honeysuckle, baby, right from the vine
them honey bees didn't seem to mind
Chorus

Til The Sun Goes Down

1) I believe-the lord is down on me,
I believe-I’ll never, never get free.
I guess I got myself to blame,
Playing this poor mans game-
Until the sun goes down.

2) I look around-I see the boss watching me,
I look around-no one is working but me.
I guess he wants me to quit,
But, I gotta stay on with this-
Until the sun goes down.

3) Do anyone-want to take my load?
I want to run-I want to hit the road.
Go where I can be free.
Where no one is hounding me-
Until the sun goes down.

4) Oh, look at me-I’m lying by the road,
I’m gonna die-aw, mama that’s for sure.
Angel come carry me-Lord, please set me free,
Before the sun goes down.

Number One

I know Jesus ain't in heaven
he's walking 'round down here
taking names-checking out all
the fools on the TV
acting like they're prophets
on the take.
Well, I guess that just proves
that the product must be good
to survive their handling
no, I won't attend your church
at all-it's still too small CHORUS

Chorus:Religion-television
politicians with guns
contrition and attrition
looking out for number 1
all about number 1

I don't watch my television
too much anymore
I got tired of all the crap
they've been shoveling
dark fantasies that seldom
bring us hope
so, their hungers and their pains
seep into our brains
and, leave us thinking:
hope's replacement needs
a plasma screen-how obscene. CHORUS

Turn off your TV-shut down your PC
find any excuse-to get away

I went to the art museum
saw all that stuff in there
all laid out-all prepared
in advance of some future
it made me wonder if someday
in some distant, undreamed land
some guy like me would stand
in silent won-der:
"The TV must have been a sacred shrine
they worshiped all the time." CHORUS

Turn off your TV-shut down your PC
find any excuse-to get away

The Blues Ain't Nothing

Oh! the blues aint nothing,
Oh! the blues aint nothing,
But a good man feeling bad,
Oh! the blues aint nothing
But a good man feeling bad,
Oh! that’s a feelingThat I’ve often had.

You can call the blues,
You can call the blues,
Any old thing you please,
You can call the blues
Any old thing you please,
But the blues aint nothing
But the dog gone heart desease.

When a man gets blue,
When a man gets blue,
He takes a train and rides,
When a man gets blue,
He takes a train and rides,
When a woman gets blue,
She hangs her little head and cries.

Oh! yonder comes,
Oh! yonder comes,
The train coming down the track,
Oh! yonder comes
The train comin’ down the track,
To take me away,
But it aint going to bring me back.

Oh! when I die,
Oh! when I die,
Honey, Honey, don’t you wear no black,
Oh! when I die,Oh! when I die,
Honey, don’t you wear no black,
’Cause if you do,
My ghost will come sneaking back.

I’m goin’ to lay my head,
I’m goin’ to lay my head
Down on some railroad line,
I’m goin’ to lay my head
Down on some railroad line,
Let the Santa Fe
Try to pacify my mind.

Rock On

Chorus:
Rock on-rock on-rock on
bad times are gone
Rock on-rock on-rock on
bad times are gone
Man can't live like this
in a constant state of pain
you can't stay like this for long
or, it'll drive you out of your brain

1.man came and got my car
took my ride away
I ain't making no money
so bills don't get paid
came while I was asleep
on a big roll back ride
when I awoke
imagine my surprise
Chorus

2.my computer crashed
my money's all gone
my cat's got some fleas
everything's gone wrong
the market's down-the news is bad
man's pounding on my door
he's looking awful mad
Chorus

3.Now,sugar's sweet-just like you
baby let's go walk-find something to do
you know I'm broke
ain't got one thin dime
let's go to J.K.'s-and, have a good time
Chorus

Okey Dokey

Chorus: Okey Dokey-Fine and Dandy
strong like wine and sweet like candy
kind of wild and kind of randy
Okey Dokey-Fine and Dandy

I walked into the room one day
saw something I didn't want to see
my baby was kissing-on a man
and it surely wasn't me
I says-"o.k. baby can you explain
how this came to be?"
she said-"you're the only man I love
but, damn he looks good to me!"
Chorus

A little bit later-that very same day
I decided to go into town
try to forget-what I had seen
maybe, do a little shopping around
I saw this girl I used to date
thought we might get down
she said-"I hate to tell you this
but, your wife's been running around."
Chorus

Before too long-it was plain to see
the girl didn't-care a thing for me
had boyfriends from here to the moon
didn't have chance-I was one of the goons
"keep the house-pay the rent
I'm not giving you-another red cent
gonna fi-nd a one man woman for me
won't be happy until I'm free."
Chorus

Beautiful World

Gene: electric guitar and vocals. David Glenn: harmonica

You know we all get up
and, we all get down
we need a chance to fly
before we hit the ground

Chorus:
you rock with the rythmn and roll with your soul
love with all your mind-but,don't you lose control
beautiful world-rocking with my baby tonight

All the little birdies
on jaybird street
got mugged in the alley
begging something to eat (Chorus)

There's a warm wind blowing
through the land today
it's going to get better
in every way (Chorus)

You get your pennies
nickels and dimes
put 'em all together
and, we'll have a good time (Chorus)

When I go to rockin'
I feel a feeling start
get that feeling
deep in my heart. (Chorus)

You walk before you run
you run before you ride
you ride before you fly
you ought to live before you die (Chorus)

Lover Baby

Groove me baby-don’t you want to move me,
Take me up to the clouds and don’t lose me.
Thrill me babe-you know you got me going-
You got a hold on me.

BRIDGE:
And I know that there is-
Something- inside of me for you.
And I know that is-
Loving-oh, so rare and true.
I’ll clean the house and I’ll wash the dished
I love them hugs and I love them kisses.
You’re my-LOVER BABY

Now, I can say-without hesitation,
You’re giving me-love’s sensation.
Glad to be-the man you’re loving
You got a hold on me.

You can tell me-baby I can take it
feeling good and don’t want to shake it
maybe I can get a little closer
I want to love on you

In The Mix

It took a little bit longer
than I wanted to baby
so, I took it out to sea
and, I joined the Navy
Sailed all around the world
past the Cape of Good Hope
Got hooked on a gal
that was hooked on dope
Junk took her life
and, my love away
found that dealer in death
and, I blew him away

CHORUS:
I was In The Mix-In The Mix

Well, the law didn't see
my point of view
hung me as killer
for my just do
I waited a while
came back as a cat
got fat as a hog
killing old wharf rats
One day I met a rat
a little bigger than me
and he grinned a grin
and, swallowed me

CHORUS:
I was In The Mix-In The Mix

So, I became rat bait
'cause I couldn't cope
came back again
as ol' hemp rope
got rolled up
in a big, fat spleaf
and a rasta man stuck me
between his teeth
lit me up like a lightining rod
and, both of us went off
to see God.

CHORUS:
I was In The Mix-In The Mix

The Easy Way Out

Sometimes I'd lie awake at night
dream about holding you tight
when it felt so right-just loving you
but, my dreams always leave me
feeling cold and all alone
so, I will go to sleep
and, take the easy way out

It all began so easily
you'd been hurt and turned to me
to help you find-yourself again
but, then we stopped talking
and, eveything became so cold
we would go to sleep
and, take the easy way out

Bridge:
Taking the easy way out
such a sad affair
a world stops turning
no one seems to care
I can't let you go
gotta let you know
I've gambled with our feelings
long enough

It's good to see us talking now
I knew we'd make it through somehow
so, come home to me
girl, you're in love with me.
And, we'll live our lives from
day to day-and, not worry about
tomorow-or, we can end it now-
and, take the easy way out

copyright 2009 Gene O'Neill

Head To Toe

I'm not too much-for talking-to the ladies
I'm the shy one-in the crowd
I'll read a book-look at paintings-hold hands
walk and talk-I'm not your type.

CHORUS:
I'd like to get know you
from head to toe (repeat)

I'm not the guy-to take you dancing-slow dancing
I don't groove-I've got no moves
Won't do no rap-I hate that crap-haiku and prose
would turn up your nose-but, that's who I am.

I know I'm square-you know it, too-why do I feel like-
I have to explain-myself to you
you're superficial-and you're so vain
but that walk-that walk you got-burns in my brain

copyright 2009 Gene O'Neill

A Hole In The Ground

I ain't no witness for insanity
I'd rather do right
and let the other guy be
Jump up cussing
you better sit right down
can't do no living in a hole in the ground

CHORUS:Gotta do right
and,get the word around
can't do living-can't do no living
can't do no living-in a hole in the ground

A roach motel ain't a baby's toy
Mama needs Daddy for
the girls and boys
A little kid shouldn't have
a mean, hard face
Turn off that TV and
take 'em some place CHORUS

You say, Good Lord!
It's a crying shame
quit talking like that
'cause we're all to blame
Kids learn about killing
on that old TV
Hope they don't want to
go and practice on me

High Over Head

I'm glad that I was born in the south
with my slow southern drawl
two or more is ya'll
when it's time to go I'm liable to say:
“I'm fixing to go-got my foot in the door.”

Bridge: *And, I guess my northern brothers
will keep on thinking
we're all like Goober and the boys

I guess to you I seem like
some sort of provincial lout
in a state of denial
I equate what you bring to us
as a case of fleas-for my cat-(that)she don't need
(Bridge and Chorus)

CHORUS:High over head
you're just a blip on a radar screen
High over head
you're just a blip on a radar screen
the sun to your right on the morning flight
fly away-go back home

If you hear someone say”- howdy, beau.”
No need to freak-that's just how we speak
You make us wish that you're not here
when you look down your nose
see the thorn-miss the rose
(Bridge and Chorus)

Rusted Rabbit Blues

Rusted rabbit-sitting there
right outside my door
sat there 'til he rusted
now he can't move no more
time goes by-good friends die
and the criminals get away
crime must pay-it must pay
don't take too long
move along-and tell the tale

Rusted rabbit-keeps the spot
my dear wife put him in
I wonder if-I'm like him
does love keep you bound within?
I do for her what I would not do
for another living soul
is that control-brought by love?
don't take too long
got to move along-and tell the tale

I can say-you- know me
I think that I-I might know you
I'm glad to say-that it works that way
that rabbit will not run today
that rabbit will not run-run away

copyright 2009 Gene O'Neill

I Won't

1. You can rock all night-go ahead and go
take your best friend to the picture show
but, I won't-I won't
Go cash or charge-anything but free
just don't send the bill to me
don't-no, don't

CHORUS:Ain't too much for me in store
a back alley or a bar room floor
no one takes my fall for me
another man's eye won't help me see
when I won't-I won't

2. Reebok the babies and BK the kids
pump 'em on up on "how it is"
but, I don't and I won't
Mama's little baby got a "no care" suit
dinky fade- Timberline boot
but, I don't-and, I won't
Chorus

3. Dream your dreams-wish upon a star
cuss your Mama for what you are
but, I won't-I won't
Dream machine don't want you free
ain't no point in asking
no don't-no don't
Chorus

Be Like Me

I ain't got lots of money
don't drive no fancy car
It's too cloudy most of the time
for me to wish on a star

But, I get a lovely feeling
when I'm doing what I can do
free as a bird-flying above the heard

I don't want to be...
Don't want to be like you
I want to be like me-e

I'm too lazy to be happy
I'm too blue to keep joy
I don't guess I'm gonna grow up
reckon I'll be a good old boy

But, I guess I've done allright
done what I've wanted to do
free to see-free to be
I don't want to be...

Don't want to be like you
I want to be like me.

Bridge: Ain't saying no one's better
That ain't like me-e
But, when the sound is flowing out
it sets my sad soul free (hook)

Work That Work

Gene: guitars,dobro and all vocals

My Pa said:"Boy, you gotta work that work."
"You want some money- you gotta work that work.
You want to go to town- you gotta work that work."

So, I went to town- looking to drink and play
Went to town- looking to drink and play
got my feelings hurt trying to drink and play

When I came to got no money-got no knife
when I came to got no money-got no knife
reckon I'm lucky-gal coulda took my life

When I got home-Pa said I smelled like sin
When I got home-Pa said I smelled like sin
He said:"I know what you're doing
I know where you been."

I said:"Stop that Pa, quit your preaching on me.
Stop that Pa, quit your preaching on me.
I'm just a young man, living wild and free."

When I came to I was laid out on the floor
When I came to I was laid out on the floor
Reckon' I ain't gonna back-sass
my Daddy-not, no more.

If you go to town- you better have a plan,
If you go to town- you better have a plan.
I didn't know that then but, now I understand.
